Celebrities, family and new fans came out to Miami's newest musical star Emily Estefan for her first full concert at UM's Frost School of Music 33rd annual Festival Miami.
Don't be fooled just by the Estefan name, the girl brings her own game. She's a multi-range musical artist jumping from playing drums like Neil Peart, to singing a ballad on the piano like Lady Gaga, to having an aura of Prince with her guitar skills. Emily Estefan performed before a sold-out crowd which brought out all kinds of media including Deco Drive's Lynn Martinez, NBC 6 Six in the Mix host Roxanne Vargas, Miami Herald music critic Howard Cohen and WFOR 4's Lisa Petrillo.
Not only was it Emily's first full concert, but also another first, her debut CD release, Take Whatever You Want, which was produced, written , and recorded by her. "Today I'm am honored to say that my mom had her grandmother at her first concert, and I can also say I have my grandmother here today", Emily told the audience, referring to Gloria Fajardo aka Rapabuela, sitting in the front row.
Her concert broke the opening night jitters with a drum solo, then going into a set of 18 songs that included many originals like the current single release Reign, the jazzy ballad, Ask Me To, and a raw and uninhabited funk fusion track, Fuck to Be. Emily continued her concert with her version of cover band favorites, including Beyonce's Dangerously In Love, Lisa Stansfield Been Around the World, Celia Cruz's La Negra Tiene Tumbao, Chaka Khan's I'm Every Woman and the song she dedicated to her grandmother and Gloria Estefan song, Reach.
Guest in the crowd included: parent's Gloria and Emilio Estefan, brother Nayib Estefan with wife Lara Diamante Coppola Estefan, Gordo y Flaca duo Lili Estefan, Raul DeMolina with wife Mily DeMolina, Pat San Pedro, Miami City Ballet founder Toby Ansin, news anchor Maria Salinas, Dr. Pedro Greer, Telemundo's Maria Celestes and Orange is the New Black star Jackie Cruz.
